Job summary

Lanes Group is recruiting for an on-call operative to support United Utilities across the North West. You will handle emergency call‑outs for JHL Recycler or JHL CityFlex, requiring an HGV Class 2 license and jetting experience. Training can be provided.

Shifts are six days a week, 16:00–02:00. You must drive to the depot to collect the vehicle. The role pays for 70 hours per week, including one paid rest day.

Qualifications

  • HGV Class 2 (C) license is required.
  • Experience with high pressure water jetting is essential.
  • Desirable: NRSWA, CPC and safety-related trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate works that need to be conducted.
  • Assess issues and implement resolutions.
  • Operate jetting machinery to clear blockages and ensure public safety.
  • Cover the United Utilities network across the North West.
  • Inform customers of works, timescales and any disruptions.
  • Inspect drainage systems for blockages, leaks or damage.
  • Carry out high‑pressure water jetting operations.
  • Perform CCTV inspections when required.
  • Use laptop/tablet for data entry.
  • Report safety issues per company procedures.
  • Maintain and service jetting equipment.

Department:

Sapphire Utility Solutions, a Lanes Group Company specialise in multiple divisions.

United Utilities operates across a number of contracts across our business, predominantly wastewater network services as part of the AMP 7 period plan.
The Team support reactive and planned maintenance across the CCTV & Jetting and Civils teams, further supported by our in house Traffic Management Division and Capital Projects covering the entire UU network.

Purpose of the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity, to join a growing and established company: you will be working reactively across the North West attending emergency call out jobs for United Utilities, on either a JHL Recycler or a JHL CityFlex. A HGV class 2 is required, and experience of jetting is essential. Training can be provided to a successful candidate.

This position requires candidates to be on call for shifts six days a week. Applicants will receive one paid rest day each week. The on-call shift is from 16:00 PM to 02:00 AM each day. During this time, successful applicants must be able to drive to the depot and collect the vehicle. Applicants will be paid 70 hours per week (inclusive of one paid rest day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigating any works that need to be conducted.
  • Assess any issues and put a resolution in place.
  • Use of Jetting machinery to conduct works to ensure safety of public.
  • Covering works across the United Utilities network across the North West
  • Attending to customers, informing them of works to be carried out and answering any concerns as well as timescales
  • Inspect drainage systems to identify blockages, leaks, or damage that could hinder water flow.
  • Carry out all aspects of high pressure water jetting
  • Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear blockages in drains, sewers, pipes, and other wastewater systems.
  • Carry out CCTV inspections where required to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
  • Competent in using an electronic device - laptop / tablet for data entry purposes
  • Ensuring safety issues are reported in line with company procedures
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of high-pressure water jetting equipment to ensure it is in proper working order.
