Job summary

Lanes Group is recruiting for a permanent, full‑time HGV tanker operator to work on Thames Water contracts from Ryemeads depot, Ware. The role involves night shifts (40.25 hours per week) in a two‑person team, driving high‑pressure water jetting equipment to restore drainage networks.

You will travel regionally, record reports, perform diagnostics and ensure safety standards while delivering excellent customer service to clients and the public.

Qualifications

• Holds a valid Class 2 HGV licence and CPC qualification.

Responsibilities

• Travel to residential sites as part of a two-person team and operate a high‑pressure water jet to restore drainage systems.
• Clean, clear and maintain drainage networks.
• Record job reports on the equipment provided.
• Run diagnostics and carry out repairs on drains as required.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain health and safety standards.

Purpose of the role:

Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for customer focused people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to waste‑water network and drainage problems.

40.25 hours 4 on 4 off night shifts

Salary:

£40,296 per annum

Overtime:

Paid at time and a half

Key Responsibilities:

• Travelling to residential sites via a HGV in a two person team, around the region, powering a high-pressure water jet for restoration
• Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems
• Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided
• Run diagnostics and repairs on drains
• Delivering good customer service
• Maintaining good health and safety practise while carrying out works
• Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished
• Comply with health and safety responsibilities, i.e. PPE / safe site setups protecting Lanes Group employees, the public and other road users
• Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms
• Operate JHL specification vacuum tankers and associated equipment
• Safely access vehicle cabs, sites and offices using correct procedures (e.g., three points of contact...)
• Manipulate (including loading and unloading to / from tanker pipe storage trays) flexible pipework in a safe manner utilising correct manual handling techniques
• Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, wearing correct PPE or utilising the lone worker system
• Dynamically risk assess site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival
• Liaising with the client regarding process and any updates
• Provide support to your colleagues
• Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use
• Report any defects or malfunctions
• Carry out risk assessments and have a mature approach to risk perception
• Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them
• Any other reasonable ad-hoc tasks, duties or projects as requested by management
