Job summary

Claret Civil Engineering Ltd is seeking a reliable Clean Water Industry Operative to support maintenance across clean water assets. This site-based role requires strong health and safety discipline and practical experience in utilities or civil engineering environments.

You will assist with reservoirs, towers, booster stations, tanks, and valve chambers, undertaking cleaning, repairs, asset maintenance and documentation in line with client requirements and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the clean water industry or similar operational environment.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Good practical skills with hand tools, powered tools, plant or site equipment.
  • Ability to follow procedures and complete documentation accurately.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence; willingness to travel to different locations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out clean water maintenance, repair and operational activities safely and to standards.
  • Assist with planned and reactive works on clean water assets including reservoirs and boosters.
  • Support excavation, reinstatement, installation, cleaning and general maintenance.
  • Follow site risk assessments, method statements, permits and client requirements.
  • Maintain water hygiene, health and safety, and environmental protection requirements.
  • Complete site records, photos and job sheets accurately to support assurance.

Description

Claret Civil Engineering Ltd is looking for a reliable and motivated Clean Water Industry Operative to support the delivery of maintenance works across clean water assets and infrastructure. This is a practical, site-based role suited to someone with a strong work ethic, a positive approach to health and safety, and experience working within utilities, civil engineering, water networks, construction or asset maintenance environments.

The successful candidate will support Claret's clean water maintenance delivery activities, including work on storage point assets such as service reservoirs, water towers, booster stations, tanks, pumping assets, storage facilities and valve chambers. Work may include site preparation, inspection support, cleaning, repair, reinstatement, asset maintenance and general operational duties in line with client requirements, company procedures, regulatory expectations and safe systems of work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out clean water maintenance, repair and operational activities safely, efficiently and to Claret Civil Engineering Ltd standards.
  • Assist with planned and reactive works on clean water assets, including service reservoirs, water towers, booster stations, tanks, storage facilities, valve chambers, valves, hydrants, meters and associated infrastructure.
  • Support excavation, reinstatement, installation, cleaning, inspection and general maintenance activities where required.
  • Follow site-specific risk assessments, method statements, permits, hygiene controls, client requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of water hygiene, health and safety, environmental protection, quality workmanship and professional conduct.
  • Use tools, plant and equipment safely and report defects, hazards, near misses or concerns promptly.
  • Complete site records, photographs, job sheets, asset information and other documentation accurately to support operational assurance and compliance.
  • Work effectively as part of a small team and communicate professionally with supervisors, clients, colleagues, contractors and members of the public.
  • Represent Claret Civil Engineering Ltd positively while working on client sites, public highways, operational water sites and customer-facing locations.
  • Participate in overtime, standby, emergency response or out-of-hours working where required by the role.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience in the clean water industry, utilities, civil engineering, construction, highways, asset maintenance or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, quality, environmental standards, water hygiene and working safely around operational clean water assets.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, and undertake physically demanding tasks safely.
  • Good practical skills and confidence using hand tools, powered tools, plant or site equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work to procedures and complete documentation accurately.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to different work locations and work flexibly when required.

The role will support compliance with relevant company procedures, client requirements and recognised standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 45003, Constructionline Gold and Achilles UVDB expectations where applicable to the work being delivered.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • National Water Hygiene Card, commonly known as the Blue Card.
  • EUSR SHEA Water.
  • CSCS or relevant utility/construction competence card.
  • Street Works qualification.
  • Confined Spaces training.
  • Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels, First Aid, Plant or Excavator tickets.
  • Experience with clean water repairs, mains and service works, valve operations, hydrants, meters, pressure reducing valves, commissioning or asset inspections.
  • Experience working on water company frameworks or regulated utility sites.
  • B+E towing entitlement or experience towing trailers.
