Job summary

City of Pocatello seeks an on-call Utility Locator for the Public Works Department. You will locate city utilities, read maps and blueprints, mark locations, and coordinate with engineers for repairs in both office and field settings.

The role requires GIS, radar, thumper, and metal detector skills, plus a strong safety mindset. A high school diploma and CDL Class A are preferred; residency within 30 minutes of duty site is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five years in municipal construction inspection, utility locating, and/or surveying preferred.
• State of Idaho Class A CDL required or equivalent experience/education.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Determine locations of existing utilities by reading maps and blueprints.
• Identify and map utility locations and depths in project areas.
• Use locating equipment to measure and document utilities.
• Process Digline requests within defined time limits.
• Perform snow and ice removal using street maintenance equipment.
• Perform all duties in accordance with City policies and safety practices.
