Job summary

WSP is seeking an on-call, part-time Field Archaeologist to support our Heritage and Cultural Resources Earth & Environment Team. The role covers multiple offices including Morristown, NJ, with 100% travel and potential for long-term work based on workload.

You will perform Phase I/II field testing, document findings, and assist in artifact identification across diverse projects. Ideal candidates hold an undergraduate degree in archaeology-related fields, have an archaeological field school, and

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field.
Archaeological field school.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Location in the southeast or Missouri and surrounding states is preferred; opportunities to work in other states possible.
This is an on-call, hourly position with travel requiring 100% of the time.

Responsibilities

Assist with field projects during all phases of archaeological testing (Phase I & II) including pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, and test unit excavation supervised by a Field Director.
Document findings through detailed notes, including Munsell soil descriptions and field forms.
Assist in prehistoric and historic artifact identification and document archaeological deposits.
Work as part of a team and maintain safety and compliance with company policies.
