Job summary

WSP is seeking an On-call, Part-Time Field Archaeologist to support our Heritage and Cultural Resources Earth & Environment Team across multiple offices in the U.S. The role involves fieldwork, documentation, and collaboration with a team, with 100% travel expected and potential for longer-term employment based on workload.

Qualified candidates will have an undergraduate degree in a related field, field school experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field.
Archaeological field school.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated and physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions.
Location in the southeast or Missouri and surrounding states preferred; opportunities to work in other states possible.
This is an on-call, hourly position with rates of $19.00–$22.50 per hour.
Position requires 100% travel.

Responsibilities

Assist with field projects during all phases of archaeological testing (Phase I and II) by performing pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, and test unit excavation under supervision.
Document findings with detailed notes, soil descriptions, and field forms.
Assist in prehistoric and historic artifact identification and documentation.
Work as part of a team.
Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
