Job summary

WSP is seeking an On Call Archaeology Field Technician to join our Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team for projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Philadelphia. The role is hourly and project-based, supporting senior archaeologists and other staff to expand client relationships and deliver field results.

The successful candidate will conduct field survey, shovel tests, artifact collection, and documentation, with travel to various sites and remote locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate coursework in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field.
• Archaeological field school or 3 months of professional experience or certification program.
• 0–2 years of experience in cultural resources fieldwork.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, physically able for fieldwork in all weather, and able to follow instructions.
• Ability to perform Phase I survey and carry up to 25 lbs. of gear.

Responsibilities

• Assist field projects during Phase I and II by performing pedestrian reconnaissance and shovel tests under supervision.
• Document findings with detailed notes and field forms.
• Collect and log prehistoric and historic artifacts.
• Work as part of a team and adhere to policies and code of conduct.
• Perform additional duties as needed by business requirements.
