Job summary

WSP USA is seeking On Call Field Archaeologists to support projects across the southwest, Midwest, and southeast. You will help collect, identify, and compile artifacts and spatial data, supporting field investigations for infrastructure projects and environmental preservation.

The role emphasizes quality documentation, safety, and ethical conduct, with travel to project sites and ability to work under general supervision as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology or closely related field; field school or similar field experience.
  • 5–7 years of archaeological or anthropology experience.
  • Experience leading field crews for Phase I/Class III pedestrian survey and shovel testing.
  • Physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling artifacts, observational, spatial, and archaeological data from field sites for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurement and documentation.
  • Assist with basic professional archaeological work and site verification.
  • Generate complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site procedures and maintain logs.
