Job summary

LSS of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an English as a Second Language Instructor for on-call, part-time opportunities. The role focuses on refugee and immigrant adult learners, with typical tutoring windows between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm, and 6:00–8:00 pm, with possible weekend shifts.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, organized, and able to teach from beginner to advanced levels using provided materials.

Qualifications

Must be enthusiastic, well-organized and reliable.
Must have cross-cultural experience and the ability to communicate with limited English speakers.
Must be flexible and able to teach beginning level students with limited formal education.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or related field and one year of teaching experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification or Master’s degree in TESOL is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Willingness to submit to background checks.

Responsibilities

Provide ESL instruction to refugee and immigrant adults.
Maintain class attendance and teach with the plans and materials provided.
May prepare lesson plans for long-term substitute teaching assignments.
Maintain regular communication with supervisor regarding availability for upcoming subbing opportunities.
Communicate with regular instructor about class content covered.
