Job summary

Lutheran Social Service in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an English as a Second Language Instructor for on-call, part-time opportunities to serve refugee and immigrant adults.

Responsibilities include delivering ESL, vocational English and/or citizenship instruction using provided plans and materials; maintaining attendance; preparing long-term substitute lesson plans when needed; and coordinating with the supervisor and regular instructor about class content and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or related field and one year of teaching experience.
• Certification or Master’s degree in TESOL, is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Willingness to submit to record checks to detect criminal convictions of behavior harmful towards children, spousal abuse, distributing drugs or sex crimes.

Responsibilities

• Provide English as a Second Language, vocational English and/or citizenship instruction to refugee and immigrant adults.
• Maintain class attendance and teach classes with the plans and materials provided.
• May be called on to prepare lesson plans for long‑term substitute teaching assignments.
• Maintain regular communication with supervisor regarding availability for any upcoming subbing opportunities.
• Communicate with regular instructor about class content covered.
