Job summary

LSS of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an English as a Second Language Instructor for on-call, part-time opportunities. The role focuses on refugee and immigrant adult learners, with typical tutoring windows between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm, and 6:00–8:00 pm, with possible weekend shifts.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, organized, and able to teach from beginner to advanced levels using provided materials.

Qualifications

• Must be enthusiastic, well-organized and reliable.
• Must have cross-cultural experience and the ability to communicate with limited English speakers.
• Must be flexible and able to teach beginning level students with limited formal education.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or related field and one year of teaching experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification or Master’s degree in TESOL is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Willingness to submit to background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide ESL instruction to refugee and immigrant adults.
• Maintain class attendance and teach with the plans and materials provided.
• May prepare lesson plans for long-term substitute teaching assignments.
• Maintain regular communication with supervisor regarding availability for upcoming subbing opportunities.
• Communicate with regular instructor about class content covered.
