Job summary

Lutheran Social Service in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an English as a Second Language Instructor for on-call, part-time opportunities to serve refugee and immigrant adults.

Responsibilities include delivering ESL, vocational English and/or citizenship instruction using provided plans and materials; maintaining attendance; preparing long-term substitute lesson plans when needed; and coordinating with the supervisor and regular instructor about class content and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or related field and one year of teaching experience.
• Certification or Master’s degree in TESOL, is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Willingness to submit to record checks to detect criminal convictions of behavior harmful towards children, spousal abuse, distributing drugs or sex crimes.

The LSS Center for New Americans seeks an ESL Instructor with a love for teaching and a passion to serve refugee and immigrant adult English Learners.

HOURS:On-Call. Schedule depending upon need. Typical hours for teaching opportunities are between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. May also include weekend opportunities

SALARY: Depends on experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be enthusiastic, well‑organized and reliable. Must have cross‑cultural experience and an ability to communicate with limited English speakers. Must be flexible and able to teach English to beginning level students with limited previous formal education.

• Certification or Master’s degree in TESOL, is preferred.
