Job summary

Save the Children is seeking a Program Aide on call/Substitutes to support Head Start, U.S. Programs. This position is a generalist role serving infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with educational, relational, and social activities across multiple sites.

The role may travel to program sites or home visits, with duties spanning classroom assistance, janitorial tasks, and food service support. Part-time/Full-time regular, on-site in Tennessee.

Qualifications

• Must be at minimum 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Knowledge of basics of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
• Ability to relate sensitively with children and to work with staff, parents and families.
• Proven ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to keep information on families confidential.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedure in day-to-day execution of job.
• Organize self and manage time to get things done.
• Keep manager informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships within workgroup and with children/families.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
• Assist the Teacher in various program activities and substitute when needed.
• Provide custodial support and assist with kitchen duties.
• Attend workshops and meetings; participate in staff and parent activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Head Start standards.
