Job summary

The Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, WA is seeking an On-Call Custodian 1 to perform custodial tasks, cleaning, and related duties across the facility. This role supports operational staffing on a rotational on-call basis, with a minimum availability of three shifts per week on two different shifts.

Eligibility includes passing background checks, TB testing, and compliance with safety and infection-control standards.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work around unpleasant odors, bloodborne pathogens, body excrements, and infections/contagious diseases while providing custodial services to elderly, vulnerable, and/or disabled residents.
• Excellent listening skills; able to work productively with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds.
• Be able to follow policies and procedures.
• Must be proficient in the English language.
• Be able to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
• Possess basic computer literacy skills in order to complete required trainings.
• Be able to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing over 50 lbs; frequent stooping, lifting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending.

Responsibilities

• Dust and disinfect furniture, sweep and mop floors, and vacuum and clean carpets.
• Maintain clean walls, privacy and shower curtains, beds, call light cords, and tray tables.
• Clean floors throughout the facility.
• Perform various housekeeping, custodial, and maintenance-related tasks.
• Regularly clean toilets, toilet bases, urinals, sinks, and other fixtures.
