Job summary

Whitley Penn, one of the nation’s leading audit, tax, and advisory firms, seeks an Assistant Controller to join our team in Houston. The role collaborates with the Energy Practice leader to design systems and processes for Oil & Gas Upstream clients, overseeing the Oil & Gas Accounting group and developing organizational structure to meet client goals.

You will mentor associates, improve procedures, and contribute to business development while maintaining exceptional client service and adherence

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Oil & Gas accounting and analysis, primarily with Upstream/E&P
• Experience with setting up accounting functions/processes
• Experience with Ogsys accounting software (OGsql and OGpro), and/or WolfePak
• BA or Master’s in accounting
• APA preferred
• Proficiency in technology and accounting programs
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP for Oil & Gas upstream/E&P accounting
• Strong communication and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Energy practice Market Leader to develop tools, systems, and processes for Oil & Gas Upstream accounting clients
• Oversee the operations of the Oil and Gas Accounting group, including organizational structure design and supervision of associates
• Set up and implement accounting functions/processes for O&G Upstream accounting
• Develop tools, systems, and processes related to O&G Upstream accounting
• Develop client service plans (meetings, dates, assignments) for engagements with the team
• Identify and research technical issues to ensure compliance with applicable rules and standards
• Ensure deliverables meet professional and firm standards
• Participate in firm committees and drive improvements in policies and processes
