Job summary

Whitley Penn, one of the nation’s leading audit, tax, and advisory firms, is seeking a Controller to join our team in Houston. The Controller will lead outsourced accounting engagements for Oil & Gas clients, focusing on exceptional client service and value-added opportunities, with strong accounting, supervision, and training responsibilities.

Candidates should bring 7–10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting experience, CPA/CA preferred, and proven ability to manage multiple client relationships,

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting and analysis, Upstream/E&P.
• Public accounting or professional services experience preferred
• Experience setting up accounting functions/process and implementation acumen
• Knowledge of GAAP/GAAS in Oil & Gas upstream/E&P accounting
• CPA/CA/CPA preferred

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the CAAS Energy O&G Partner to develop tools, systems and processes for Oil & Gas Upstream accounting clients
• Serve as a liaison between the partner, the client and the professional staff
• Manage multiple client engagements and monitor engagement economics and workflow
• Develop client service plans for engagements in collaboration with the team
• Maintain consistent contact with clients and own end-to-end relationship
• Review engagement economics with clients as necessary
• Identify and research technical issues to ensure compliance with rules and standards
• Suggest improvements to policies, processes, or procedures
• Coach and develop staff through training and professional development
• Participate in the firm’s annual performance management and goal setting process
