Job summary

Whitley Penn, a leading audit, tax, and advisory firm, seeks an Associate to support Oil & Gas accounting engagements in Houston. You will monitor payables/receivables, assist in monthly/quarterly/yearly cycles, prepare financial statements, and support audits under supervision.

The role offers hybrid work with in-office and WFH days and opportunities for professional development. Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of Oil & Gas accounting experience, a BA/Master’s in accounting, and CPA

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of Oil & Gas accounting and analysis experience.
• BA or Master’s degree in accounting or financial management.
• CPA or CPA eligibility preferred.
• Basic knowledge of GAAP and GAAS, especially for Oil & Gas.
• Familiarity with industry calculations like Depletion and Impairment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related tools.
• Experience with WolfePak and/or Ogsys accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Participate in client engagements and learn the engagement process.
• Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Prepare daily receipts, monthly revenue sheets, inter-company reports.
• Ensure monthly transactions are accurately recorded.
• Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting cycles and statements.
• Coordinate JIB, revenue and other monthly accounting processes.
• Perform revenue-related tasks and reconciliations for deferred revenue.
• Support external audit activities.
• Identify, measure and analyze data; communicate with clients.
• Learn engagement budgets and manage personal billable hours.
• Develop knowledge of the firm and participate in training and development.
• Engage in community events and networking opportunities.
