The Office Engineer is responsible for providing project management and administrative support for a large-scale bridge seismic retrofit project. Working closely with the Project Manager, Field Engineers, Superintendents, Project Controls, Quality, and Commercial teams, the Office Engineer assists with project documentation, subcontractor coordination, contract administration, cost tracking, scheduling support, and technical correspondence.
This position serves as a critical liaison between field operations and project management to ensure project records, submittals, RFIs, change management documentation, and reporting requirements are completed accurately and efficiently.
Job Responsibilities
Project Administration & Document Control
- Manage and maintain project correspondence, drawing logs, submittals, RFIs, contract documents, and project records.
- Track and process submittals, shop drawings, material approvals, and technical documentation.
- Prepare, distribute, and archive meeting minutes and project correspondence.
- Ensure project records are accurate, current, and compliant with owner and company requirements.
Contract & Change Management Support
- Assist with reviewing plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Support the preparation and tracking of change orders, contract modifications, and potential change events.
- Maintain change management logs and supporting documentation.
- Monitor subcontractor and vendor compliance with contractual obligations.
Construction Coordination
- Coordinate with field engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Support field operations by facilitating communication between project stakeholders.
- Track material deliveries, procurement status, and subcontractor activities.
- Assist with resolving project issues that could impact project performance.
Cost & Schedule Support
- Assist with quantity tracking, productivity reporting, and cost monitoring.
- Support preparation of monthly forecasts, progress reports, and project updates.
- Track commitments, purchase orders, and subcontractor invoices.
- Assist Project Controls personnel with schedule updates and progress reporting.
Technical Support
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Assist project teams with obtaining design clarifications and resolving technical issues.
- Maintain drawing registers and revision logs.
- Support implementation of engineering changes in the field.
Quality & Compliance
- Support project quality management processes and documentation.
- Maintain inspection logs and quality records.
- Assist with audits and compliance reviews.
- Ensure project documentation complies with owner, regulatory, and company requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience supporting heavy civil, bridge, transportation, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Experience with bridge rehabilitation, seismic retrofit, structural steel, or concrete construction preferred.
- Experience working on public agency projects is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with project management and document control systems.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling software and project controls processes preferred.
- Understanding of construction means and methods, quantity tracking, and cost reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on bridge, transportation, highway, rail, or seismic retrofit projects.
- Experience with Caltrans, MTA, NYSDOT, Port Authority, or other public-sector infrastructure clients.
- Familiarity with design-build project delivery methods.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
