Job summary

The Phillip Charles Group in Romulus, MI is seeking an Ocean Import Agent for a contract-to-hire role. You will assist with import documentation, coordination with brokers, carriers, and customers, and ensure compliance with instructions from the supervisor.

Hours are 8am-5pm, and pay is $20-24/hr based on experience. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel), and basic knowledge of export regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong MS Word and Excel skills.
• Familiarity with Lotus Notes or AS/400 a plus.
• Knowledge of international commerce and export technology preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and flexible schedule.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• General knowledge of export technology and international commerce regulations an asset.

Responsibilities

• Handle job assignments as directed by the Team Leader and provide support to other Import Agents.
• Prepare and process import shipments, including customs clearance, shipping, labeling, and cargo disbursement.
• Generate delivery orders, shipping labels, and other required shipment documentation.
• Prepare import documentation for the brokerage department and customers’ customs brokers.
• Coordinate cargo pickups and deliveries with trucking companies, airlines, and bonded facilities.
• Perform accurate filing, data entry, freight bill preparation, and related administrative duties.
• Monitor and collect outstanding invoices within established customer credit terms.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure all import-related activities are completed efficiently and on schedule.
