Job summary

Sinai Post Acute Nursing & Rehab in Newark, NJ is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to implement occupational therapy programs and provide treatments to residents under supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.

The position focuses on increasing residents’ independence through ADL and ROM activities, under OT direction, with flexible hours including full-time, part-time, and per diem.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program and eligible for certification by the AOTA/ABOTA.
• Licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required by the state.

Responsibilities

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plans under supervision of the primary Occupational Therapist.
• Provides OT treatments including activities of daily living and range of motion exercises.
• Performs ADL evaluations under the Occupational Therapist’s direction.
• Organizes and facilitates treatment groups with the Occupational Therapist.
• Instructs residents, families and caregivers in OT techniques under supervision.
• Collaborates with rehabilitation team to develop resident-specific programs.
• Maintains appropriate and timely documentation for all treated residents.
• Attends care, staffing and other required meetings as OT representative.
• Cleans, maintains and reports needs for equipment repairs.
• Delivers high-quality service in a compassionate atmosphere that respects resident rights.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) POSITION SUMMARY:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements occupational therapy programs and provides occupational therapy treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) RESPONSIBLITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. 1 Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Occupational Therapist;
2. 2 Provides individualized occupational therapy treatments including activities of daily living and range of motion exercises;
3. 3 Performs activities of daily living evaluations under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
4. 4 Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the Occupational Therapist;
5. 5 Instructs residents, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist;
6. 6 Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;
7. 7 Maintains appropriate and timely resident and non-resident documentation for all residents treated;
8. 8 Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other required meetings as a representative of occupational therapy, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
9. 9 Cleans, maintains, identifies and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary;
10. 10 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• 1 Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she must be certified and/or eligible for certification by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
• 2 Licensed and/or eligible for licensure, as required by the state.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) JOB SKILLS:

• 2 Good verbal and written communication skills.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:

• 1 Interacts with residents, families, visitors and employees.
