Job summary

Retreat Doctors' Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, seeks a PRN Occupational Therapist to serve pediatric and acute care populations in Virginia. You will evaluate needs, develop individualized plans, and provide hands-on therapy aligned with evidence-based practices.

Work closely with physicians and an interdisciplinary team, document patient progress, and educate families to support recovery and engagement.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AOTA accredited School of Occupational Therapy.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia.
• CPR and AHA Healthcare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver evidence-based interventions to promote healing and independence.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Occupational Therapists play a vital role in helping patients regain independence, confidence, and quality of life after illness or injury. Your role will include:

• Evaluating each patient’s functional abilities and needs, then developing individualized therapy plans in coordination with physicians and the care team.

• Delivering skilled, evidence‑based interventions that promote healing, independence, and quality of life through purposeful, compassionate care.

• Monitoring patient progress, adjusting plans as needed, and ensuring thorough, timely documentation that reflects quality outcomes.

• Educating patients and families to build understanding, confidence, and engagement throughout recovery and beyond.

• Collaborating with interdisciplinary partners to ensure seamless transitions of care, safe environments, and exceptional patient experiences.

• Leading by example - providing guidance to therapy assistants or students and upholding HCA Healthcare's mission, values, and commitment to excellence.

• Responsible for clinical management of the patient.

• Assures satisfaction of customers (patients, visitors, physicians and staff), upholding ICARE values

• Participates and understands Quality Management activities.

• Demonstrates effective communication skills.

• Demonstrates understanding of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

• Promotes cost effective unit operations.

• Documents care utilizing the appropriate tools.

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an AOTA accredited School of Occupational Therapy

• AHA Healthcare Provider

• CPR

LICENSURE:

• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Virginia

EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience in an acute care facility preferred; new graduates considered

ESSENTIAL:

Includes all practice and performance standards designated on the performance appraisal form unless otherwise indicated
