About the Department

Our Obstetric Department supports the mission, vision and values of Lakewood Health System. Our team consists of Registered Nurses, Lactation Specialists, Health Unit Coordinators and Obstetric Technicians. The Obstetrics team provides a plan of care based on Provider instruction and Nursing Care to meet patient goals providing optimal care for their health and safety.

Mission for Position

The Obstetrics Technician supports the mission and values of Lakewood Health System by providing exceptional care during surgical and delivery procedures. This role ensures the maintenance of a sterile environment, proper handling of instruments, and adherence to safety protocols. By collaborating with the surgical and delivery teams, the technician contributes to safe, efficient, and compassionate care for all patients.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Obstetrics Technician assists the delivery providers, anesthesia or labor and delivery nurse in the labor room or operating room during deliveries or procedures. They ensure instrumentation for deliveries and procedures are clean or sterile and in working order. They also observe and maintain a sterile field during deliveries and procedures.

Other duties include assisting staff to care for patients and families outside of the delivery areas. Duties will also include answering phones, call lights, obtaining vital signs, stock supplies, and other tasks assigned.

Position Type

• This position is full-time, working every third weekend, rotating shifts and holidays.

• BLS certification required.

• Must be able to take initiative to complete basic tasks.


• Self-motivated and a quick thinker, able to adapt to any situation.


• Previous experience as Scrub tech, EMT, Nurse's Aide or similar experience preferred.
