Job summary

MedStar Health in Washington, DC seeks a Surgical Tech/Patient Care Tech to support obstetric surgery and obstetric patient care in Labor & Delivery. You will assist with procedures, maintain sterile technique, collect specimens, and help with ADLs under supervision.

The role also includes taking vital signs, documenting observations, instrument prep, and efficient room turnover while collaborating with nurses and providers to ensure patient dignity and safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program required or
• Patient Care Technician training program required

Responsibilities

• Assist with obstetric/gynecological surgical procedures and cesarean deliveries under supervision.
• Set up sterile equipment and maintain aseptic technique; assist with room turnover and sterilization.
• Collect blood/urine specimens; label, transport, and document results.
• Assist patients with ADLs, mobility, and daily care.
• Record vital signs, intake/output, and clinical data; perform basic point-of-care testing.
• Initiate CPR and apply oxygen as directed.
• Support care team during vaginal births and assist with equipment.
• Maintain patient privacy and comfort; provide 1:1 observation when needed.
• Prepare patients for exams, assist with treatments, and perform delegated clinical tasks.
• Ensure clean, safe environments and proper storage of supplies.
