Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare's OB Surgical Technologist position supports the delivery team by preparing the Delivery and Operating Rooms, maintaining sterile fields, and assisting the RN throughout perioperative care.

Under supervision, you will handle equipment, draping, assist with newborn screening and specimen handling, document care, and contribute to infection control and continuous improvement, with a focus on safety and quality in obstetric procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an approved program: Operating Room Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology; six months experience preferred.
• Registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the care team to achieve patient outcomes based on physician preference cards and assessments.
• Prepares Delivery and OR rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment using aseptic technique.
• Drapes patients and assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
• Documents all care in the electronic medical record.
• Assists with turnover, stocking, and maintaining a safe environment.
• Performs patient support duties under RN direction, including venipuncture, vital signs, specimen handling, and newborn care as appropriate.
• Participates in infection control and quality improvement programs.
• Demonstrates effective communication and teamwork.
