Job summary

Caltech is seeking a part-time janitorial assistant at Palomar Observatory. The role involves cleaning, maintenance, and customer-facing duties on weekends, working under the Facilities and Maintenance group supervisor.

Responsibilities include cleaning areas, grounds help, snow/ice removal, waste management, and light maintenance. Requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, ability to lift 50 lbs, and passing a background check and physical.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain it.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs of equipment and supplies.
• Work outside in inclement weather and at elevations up to 6000'.
• Able to safely use basic tools and pass background check and physical.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain floors, restrooms, and public areas.
• Drive observatory vehicles to various sites across the observatory.
• Assist staff in grounds maintenance and snow/ice removal.
• Open and close the public visitor facilities.
• Assist with mirror cleaning and coating.
• Other duties as assigned.
