Caltech is seeking a full-time Grounds and Facilities Maintenance worker to join the Palomar Observatory team in Palomar Mountain, CA. The role involves building and grounds upkeep, painting, tree trimming, mowing, and water/septic system work, with duties across facilities and equipment.
The position requires physical stamina, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and driving observatory vehicles. A valid driver’s license and safety mindset are essential, with outdoor work in varied weather conditions.

Position is full-time and located at Palomar Observatory. The position works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance group supervisor. Under limited direction, the position will work alone or with other members of the observatory staff to perform grounds and building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to, weed/brush abatement, tree trimming, mowing, fence repair, snow/ice abatement, building repair/maintenance, painting, wood working, and general water systems/plumbing repair. As needed, the position will assist with industrial water and septic systems repair. Position will perform and document grounds and building preventive maintenance tasks.
$21.00 - $24.00 Per Hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
