Job summary

Vanguard in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Observability Engineer to design and operate cloud-based observability platforms across logs, metrics, and traces. You will enable teams with reliable, scalable services and champion AI-assisted operations as part of Observability 2.0.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 3+ years in cloud engineering/platform engineering roles.
• 3+ years experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
• Hands-on with Docker and orchestration (ECS and/or Kubernetes).
• Experience with serverless architectures and modern cloud design patterns.
• Strong programming and automation with Python or Bash.
• Experience with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch).
• Hands-on with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices.
• Collaborative with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support cloud-based observability platforms (logs, metrics, tracing).
• Develop cloud-native apps using AWS services, including Lambda.
• Manage container workloads with Docker, ECS, and Kubernetes.
• Automate infrastructure and operations with Python or Bash.
• Onboard applications and promote observability best practices.
• Optimize SaaS and in-house platforms with vendor coordination and tuning.
• Monitor health, troubleshoot issues, ensure high availability and reliability.
• Develop IaC for scalable deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
• Evaluate new tools to improve platform performance.
