Job summary

The Conservation Technician at Biltmore is a professional position working under the direction of conservators to preserve objects in Biltmore's collections. The role emphasizes preparing objects for permanent storage and providing documentation and preventive care.

You will assist with conservation assessment, treatment documentation, photography, and collaboration with museum staff. The work requires attention to safety, use of PPE, and the ability to work independently within a team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (fine art, art conservation, art history, etc.).
• At least two years of related experience; conservation lab or museum setting preferred.
• Experience preparing a large collection for permanent storage or move preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare objects for move to new storage facility, including cleaning, documentation, photography, re-housing.
• Maintain care of collections on display and in storage.
• Assist with response to collection incidents.
• Document and assist with conservation treatment per AIC standards and guidelines.
• Support research, technical studies, and creative problem solving related to treatment.
