Job summary

Biltmore Estate is seeking an Archives Assistant to support the Archives under the direction of the Archivist. You will process archival materials, create inventories, and assist with preservation and moves across the estate.

The ideal candidate has a four-year degree and at least one year of archival or library experience, familiarity with cataloging standards, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. You will work independently and as part of a team in a climate-controlled archives space, with

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in information science, archival/library fields required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in an archive or library environment.
  • Experience with archival processing, rehousing, condition reporting, and handling fragile items preferred.
  • Familiarity with controlled vocabularies, cataloging/metadata standards, and collection management software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and quick to learn Biltmore systems and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established guidelines for processing archival materials using Re:Discovery Proficio.
  • Create inventories and perform condition reporting for archival materials.
  • Assist with rehousing and scanning archival materials.
  • Assist with preservation efforts and initiatives in the Archives.
  • Assist with creating logistical plans and organizing archival collection moves.
  • Support Archives staff as needed.
