The Referral Specialist tracks referrals, closes patient care gaps, and communicates with patients, providers, and payers to ensure timely scheduling and continuation of care. Strong HIPAA and customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of direct patient interaction/experience in medical, insurance, or healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations; strong customer service focus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency with commonly used office software.

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments for specialty services and diagnostic testing per provider request and communicate with patients.
• Serve as liaison between patients, providers, and staff for referral and follow-up needs.
• Provide clinical information needed for payor authorization and for facilities or specialists prior to services.
• Track and manage referrals, monitor 30/60/90 day intervals and follow up with patients.
• Collaborate with outside referral sources and community resources to develop referrals.
• Prioritize tasks within guidelines with moderate supervision and maintain patient care awareness.
