Job summary

Piedmont Walton Hospital in Georgia is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support labor and delivery in a 7-bed unit with an integrated OR and PACU. You will assist in obstetrical operations, manage instruments and maintain sterile technique to ensure patient safety from triage through postpartum and newborn care.

The role requires graduation from a Surgical Technologist program, 1 year OR experience, and 3 years of direct patient care, with BCLS at hire and neonatal resuscitation preferred.

Qualifications

• Surgical Technologist training program completed.
• 1 year OR experience as Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist required.
• 3 years direct patient care in a clinical setting required.
• BCLS - Basic Life Support on Hire required.
• NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment during obstetrical operations in the operating room located in the Labor and Delivery unit.
• Understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
• Maintain the sterile field and provide quality patient care during the operative procedure; assist under RN supervision.

Our 7-bed unit, with an integrated OR and PACU, supports 30–40 deliveries each month and provides comprehensive care for a wide range of patients and obstetric needs—from triage and labor to surgical delivery, recovery, postpartum, newborn nursery, and gynecologic care.

Staffing ratios are thoughtfully guided by patient acuity and volume: 1:1 in active labor and OR/recovery, 2:1 for patients on magnesium therapy, and 3:1 for couplet care. Responsibilities

Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the obstetrical operations performed in the Operating Room located in the Labor and Delivery unit. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Performs patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience

• Graduate from a Surgical Technologist training program Required or
• 1 year previous operating room experience as a Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist Required or
• 3 years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting Required

Licenses and Certifications
