Job summary

BAM Labs NYC LLC is opening a neighborhood cafe in New York City and seeks a hands-on Cafe Manager to lead opening, build a strong team, and own daily performance. You will work closely with the BAM team to ensure a seamless, connected guest experience consistent with the brand.

The ideal candidate will oversee coffee quality, staffing, purchasing, and guest service, ensuring top notch hospitality and profitability. Salary ranges and benefits reflect NYC standards.

Qualifications

• Strong technical coffee knowledge and ability to dial in espresso, maintain drink standards, and train baristas.
• Experience managing a busy specialty coffee shop or café with staff, service, inventory, and finances.
• Experience hiring, scheduling, coaching, and developing a team.
• Confidence with purchasing, inventory controls, vendor management, and cost tracking.
• A hands-on approach: notice what needs attention and step in.
• Clear communication, sound judgment under pressure, and hospitality focus.
• Industry standards for Food & Beverage, Hospitality, Service, and Coffee.
• NYC Food Safety Handlers Card to carry while working.
• Experience opening a new café is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Open the café and manage a detailed opening checklist.
• Hire and train the opening team, build schedules, and run practice services.
• Set up drink procedures, inventory, ordering, cleaning, and guest concerns.
• Dial in espresso, calibrate grind, dose, yield, and extraction.
• Train baristas on dialing in, milk texture, and presentation.
• Oversee equipment maintenance and supplier coordination.
• Interview, hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate café staff.
• Order goods, manage stock levels, and control costs.
• Lead service to ensure a welcoming guest experience.
• Monitor safety, DOH readiness, and daily operations.
• Review sales, labor, and costs; report weekly to founders.
