Job summary

Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership is seeking a Substitute Nutrition Assistant in Brookings, SD to support congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, and Head Start programs. You will work with the lead cook to prepare and distribute meals meeting dietary needs and preferences.

The role emphasizes kitchen operations, adherence to safety standards, and teamwork to ensure timely service for the community’s vulnerable populations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; culinaryArts/food service cert a plus.
• Experience in kitchen or food service preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
• Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong organizational skills and teamwork.
• Good written and verbal instructions communication.

Responsibilities

• Review daily menus and help prepare meals.
• Record food items used for compliance records.
• Estimate and order supplies; manage inventory.
• Fill in for cook to ensure continuous service.
• Maintain food safety and sanitation; monitor temperatures.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment.
• Assist with receiving and storing inventory.
