Job summary

Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership invites applications for a Substitute Nutrition Assistant in Flandreau, SD. The role supports meals for seniors, children, and Head Start participants, working with the lead cook to prepare nutritious meals and ensure safety and compliance.

The position offers opportunities in Meals on Wheels, congregate meals, and kitchen operations, with emphasis on teamwork, accuracy, and food safety standards in a community-focused setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; culinary arts or food service certification is a plus.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
• Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare daily menus, ensuring meals are nutritious and prepared on schedule.
• Record the amount and types of special food items served to maintain records for compliance.
• Estimate and order food supplies, inventory, and equipment as needed to maintain efficient operations.
• Step in for the cook as needed, showcasing culinary skills and continuity of service.
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, monitoring temperatures and portions.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils for a clean, safe environment.
• Assist in receiving and storage of inventory with proper dating and storage of food items.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
