Job summary

Inter-Lakes Community Action is seeking a Substitute Nutrition Assistant in Brookings, SD to support meal services for elderly and children, including Meals on Wheels and Head Start. You’ll assist the lead cook, help prepare and portion meals, and ensure safety and accuracy in daily operations.

The position is non-exempt and offers an hourly wage of $13.66 to $19.28, dependent on education and experience. Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary arts or food service management certification is a plus.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and a commitment to cleanliness.
• Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong organizational skills and teamwork ability.
• Good communication and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare daily menus, ensuring meals are nutritious and prepared according to schedule.
• Record the amount and types of special food items served to maintain records for compliance.
• Estimate and order food supplies, inventory, and equipment as needed.
• Step in for the cook as needed to ensure continuity of service.
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils for a safe environment.
• Assist in receiving and storage of inventory with proper dating.
