Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician to join the perianesthesia team at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. The role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties, supporting patient care and administrative tasks on a fast-paced unit.

You will work under a nurse's supervision, delivering compassionate care, coordinating with families and the healthcare team, and ensuring efficient unit operations.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required for Healthcare Providers.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored program preferred.
• Six months of direct care experience in a health setting may be substituted.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program with clinical rotation.
• Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry credential at hire is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care including personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transport, and feeding.
• Assist with unit desk duties: answering phones, admissions, discharges, transferring forms, transcribing orders, chart prep, and test orders.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms and beds, ensuring supplies are stocked and rooms are ready.
• Order and stock supplies to support unit operations.

Job Overview

This position works 80 hours every two weeks (1.0FTE), working 50% day shifts and 50% evening shifts. Variety of start times as early as 0445 and as late at 1400. Day shift is considered 1000 start time and earlier, evening is considered start time 1100 and later.

Rotating Saturday shift 0630-1500 approximately once every 3 months.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center is looking for Nursing Station Technicians to join our perianesthesia team. The University of Minnesota Medical Center is the flagship location for University of Minnesota Health providing breakthrough medicine and transforming the health of our community.

Perianesthesia Department, three phases of care:

• Pre & Post has 22 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits
• Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 30-50 patients/day

About the Job:

The Nursing Station Technician is a combined position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Minimum Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

And one of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience
