Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician for M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This hybrid role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to support patient care and unit operations on a fast-paced ICU unit.

You will work under the supervision of a professional nurse, providing patient care support, transporting patients and supplies, and assisting with clerical tasks and room setup.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program preferred.
• Six months of direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting preferred.
• Enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program with one semester of clinical rotation.
• Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification on hire is acceptable (not required to be maintained thereafter).

Responsibilities

• Assist professional caregiver in delivering patient care and transport patients/equipment.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms; reorder and stock supplies.
• Perform clerical, transcription, and unit desk duties; coordinate unit communications.
• Work under supervision of a professional nurse; may receive patient care assignments based on unit needs.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 32 hours every two weeks on the day/evening shifts, 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend rotation.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital provides high-acuity care to critically ill patients from across the Southwest Twin Cities metro area. This fast-paced, dynamic environment offers exposure to advanced technologies, complex medical conditions, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Nursing Assistants and Nursing Station Technicians play a vital role in supporting both direct patient care and essential unit operations. Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Station Technician is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.

The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract.
