Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Nursing Station Technician at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. The role is 8-hour evening shifts, 48 hours every two weeks, with every-other-weekend involvement and eligibility for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

This hybrid Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator position supports a 35-bed cardiac telemetry unit, focusing on patient care delivery, unit coordination and efficient communication.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program qualifies.
• Six months of direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, with one semester of clinical rotation completed.
• Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification on hire is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional caregiver in patient care delivery, transport patients/equipment, set up and maintain patient rooms, reorder and stock supplies.
• Perform clerical tasks and maintain the patient care unit desk area, coordinate communication on the unit.
• Supervise under the direction of a professional nurse; may be assigned patient care tasks as needed.
• Hybrid role combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication with patients, families and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit.
• Other duties include: assist with personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, feeding; manage admissions/discharges; set up and stock supplies.

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 48 hours every two weeks on the Evening shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend, and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

Do you have a special curiosity about cardiac patients? Then the Southdale Heart Center may be the right unit for you! This lively and challenging 35 bed cardiac telemetry unit cares for patients with a variety of diagnosis. This is a fast paced unit with a complex patient population and many learning opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Station Technician is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
