Fairview Health Services seeks a Nursing Station Technician (NST) / Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) for the NICU at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. This hybrid role combines nursing assistant and administrative duties to support patient care and unit operations.

The NST works under supervision of a professional nurse, handling direct patient care and unit coordination with emphasis on teamwork and communication in a fast-paced NICU setting.

Qualifications

• Six months of hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care).
• Enrolled in an LPN/RN/NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester).
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry.
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program; OnTrack participants must obtain BLS certification upon completion.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, vitals, activities, repositioning, transportation and feeding.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms and execute unit desk duties including admissions, discharges, and transferring forms; transcribe orders; assemble patient charts and order tests.
• Coordinate ordering and stocking of supplies and maintain unit desk area functions; answer phones and handle communication on the unit.
• Performs other tasks as needed.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician (NST) Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator HUC for the NICU Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville, MN) to work under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator.

This position is a 0.60 FTE, working 48 hours per 2 week pay period. This position works 8-hour shifts, every other weekend rotation (Fri,Sat,Sun), on a rotating Day/Evening shift.

The Nursing Station Technician is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications: (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following):

• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program (Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program)
