Fairview Health Services is hiring a Nursing Station Technician (NST) for the Med/Surg 7B unit at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank in Minneapolis, MN. The NST will work under the supervision of a professional nurse, delivering direct patient care and supporting Health Unit Coordinator duties.

The role requires BLS certification and completion of one of several qualifying programs or relevant experience, with options including current enrollment in an LPN/RN

Qualifications

• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program required.
• Six months of direct care experience in long-term, home care, or acute care setting.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, with one semester of clinical rotation completed.
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to maintain later).

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, activities of daily living, repositioning, transporting and feeding.
• Maintain unit desk functions: answering phones, processing admissions, discharges and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms.

Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is hiring a Nursing Station Technician (NST) for our Med/Surg 7B unit at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on located on both the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). The shift length of 12 hours on the overnight shift. This position will also work every third weekend rotation.

About 7B: This 22-bed unit provides care for adult patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, and those with Cystic Fibrosis or General Medicine needs.

Patient Ratios: Day and evening shift 7-8 patients, night shift 11 patients

Responsibilities:

The Nursing Station Technician position deliver direct patient care and is cross trained to Health Unit Coordinator duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit. Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Minimum Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

And one of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience
