Job summary

ENNIS in is seeking a Nursing Supervisor to oversee day-to-day nursing activities at a Texas long-term care facility. You will supervise staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards and report to the Director of Nursing.

You will participate in policy development, quality assurance, and committee activities, while coordinating care plans, admissions, transfers, and discharges. Emphasis on safety, patient care, and interdepartmental collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
• Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
• Ensure that reference material maintained at the nurses' stations is current. Recommend written material that will assist the nursing service department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the resident.
• Ensure Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects the day-to-day nursing procedures performed in this facility.
• Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
• Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
• Periodically review the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc., and make revisions as needed.
• Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.
• Ensure all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their job descriptions.
• Participate in the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
• Participate in facility surveys (inspections) by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services.
• Review resident discharge plans and assist in updating them as required.
• Assist the Director in planning the nursing services portion of the resident's discharge plan as necessary.
• Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
• Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
• Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
• Perform administrative duties such as charting and reports as necessary.
• Agree not to disclose assigned user IDs and passwords and report suspected violations to the Administrator.
• Agree not to disclose residents' protected health information and report suspected violations to the Administrator.
• Report any unauthorized attempts to access the facility's information system.
• Attend committee meetings (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Quality Assurance) and assist in preparing reports.
• Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.
• Participate in developing the agenda for the Care Plan Committee meetings as necessary.
• Participate in reviews of discharge plans and make them available to the Care Plan Committee as required.
• Implement recommendations from established committees as instructed by the Director.
• Ensure that a sufficient number of licensed practical and/or registered nurses are available for your tour of duty.
• Ensure that a sufficient number of certified nursing assistants are available for your tour of duty.
• Develop work assignments and perform tasks as needed.
• Delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurse for assigned duties.
• Ensure all nursing assistants are in approved training or graduating from a nursing assistant program.
• Ensure nurse aide trainees are supervised by a licensed nurse.
• Make daily rounds of the nursing service department and report findings to the Director.
• Monitor absenteeism to ensure adequate staffing and report problems.
• Ensure policies and dress codes are followed by all staff.
• Review complaints by department personnel and report as required to the Director.
• Develop and maintain good rapport with other departments to meet residents' needs.
• Create an environment of warmth and calm throughout the unit and shift.
• Meet with shift regularly to identify and correct problems.
• Review and evaluate staffing, and make recommendations to the Director.
• Participate in employee performance evaluations and staffing decisions.
• Ensure disciplinary actions are handled fairly.
• Report occupational exposures to blood and hazardous materials as per policy.
• Report suspected fraud to the Administrator.
• Ensure secure login practices for nursing service computers.
