The

Overview

Nursing Professional Development Practitioner - PRNThe Practitioner, Nursing Professional Development (NPD) serves as an educator, facilitator, and professional development resource for nursing staff across IU Health. This PRN position is primarily responsible for the delivery of system Core Classes and educational programs that support onboarding, professional growth, competency development, and excellence in patient care. Teaching experience is strongly preferred, as this role requires effective classroom instruction, learner engagement, and facilitation of adult learning principles. This position is primarily based at IU Health North Hospital in Carmel, Indiana, with a primary focus on supporting educational and onboarding needs for that facility. While the majority of scheduled assignments will occur at the IU North location, the practitioner may also provide occasional support to other regional facilities, including IU Health West Hospital, IU Health Fishers/Saxony Hospital, and IU Health Methodist Hospital (Downtown Indianapolis), as organizational and educational needs arise. Using NPD practice judgment and expertise, the practitioner promotes professional role competence, lifelong learning, and workforce development in alignment with the IU Health Way. This role partners closely with nursing leaders, educators, and interdisciplinary stakeholders to support organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate and teach system Core Classes and other educational programs for nursing and clinical team members.
• Support onboarding and orientation of new team members through classroom and skills-based instruction.
• Coordinate competency development, validation, and management activities.
• Design, deliver, and evaluate educational offerings utilizing principles of adult learning.
• Promote professional role development and continuing education opportunities.
• Build collaborative partnerships with leaders and stakeholders to achieve strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
• Support inquiry, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Serve as an educational resource at the unit, facility, and system levels as needed.
• Contribute to an environment that fosters continuous learning, professional growth, and exceptional patient care outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Two years experience preferred.
• Previous education experience preferred.
• Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs.
• Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
