Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner at Bedford Hospital on-site in Bedford Park, IL. The role focuses on onboarding, competency management, education, and collaboration with unit leaders to advance patient care and staff development.

Primary focus is inpatient Med-Surg & Oncology Infusion education with opportunities to lead programs, mentor staff, and apply adult learning principles.

Qualifications

• BSN required from an accredited nursing program.
• Active RN license in IN or NLC.
• BLS certification required.
• 3–5 years nursing experience preferred; educator/preceptor preferred.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles; strong collaboration and communication.
• Willingness to travel to support educational needs across IU Health.

Overview

Location: On-site at Bedford Hospital

Shift: 0.6 FTE 24 hours Weekly – Primarily Day Shift with some Night and Weekend Shift Support

Position: Nursing Professional Development Practitioner

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner utilizes professional judgment and expertise to enhance the role competence and growth of learners across various settings, supporting the IU Health Way. Key responsibilities include onboarding and orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, and inquiry. This role often functions at the unit or facility level, partnering with leaders and stakeholders to achieve strategic goals and initiatives.

Position Overview:

The Nursing Professional Development Practitioner plays a vital role in fostering professional growth, ensuring competency, and supporting educational needs within the organization. They serve as a resource and leader in adult learning principles, working collaboratively to promote excellence in patient care and staff development across IU Health. The primary focus of this role will be Inpatient Med-Surg & Oncology Infusion education.

• Build collaborative partnerships with unit leaders, educators, and stakeholders to support organizational goals.

• Support system-wide and unit-specific educational strategies to meet evolving patient care needs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Education:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.

- Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program.

• Licensure:

- Active RN license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

• Certifications:

- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

- Additional advanced life support certifications may be required depending on unit or specialty.

• Experience:

- 3-5 yrs years of nursing experience preferred.

- Educator/Preceptor experience strongly preferred

• Knowledge & Skills:

- Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles and techniques.

- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to support educational needs across the system.

- Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
