Job summary

Baptist Health in Lexington, KY is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the PACU as a full-time first shift position. The PACU provides care immediately after anesthesia, monitoring and supporting patients’ initial recovery.

Responsibilities include transporting patients, assisting with hygiene and meals, aiding mobility, documenting care every two hours, and supporting discharge. On-call coverage is required weeknights, weekends, and holidays by rotation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current KY Nurse Aide Certification, or completion of first year of Nursing program with validation of clinical rotation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; if not held, must obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients after recovery.
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene (bathing, dental/oral care, hair and nail care).
  • Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions while recording intake & output and maintaining dignity.
  • Never leave patient unattended when out of bed for bathroom assistance.
  • Assist patients in dressing and undressing while preserving dignity and privacy.
  • Assist with lifting patients manually or with mechanical lifts as directed by the nurse.
  • Assist patients with eating and drinking and meet nutritional needs.
  • Assist in transferring and discharging patients as required.
  • Assist patients with positioning for meals and maintain hand hygiene.
  • Serve meals and assist with feeding as necessary, offer supplemental snacks.
  • Provides fresh ice and drinking water per policy.
  • Document input on chart at least every two hours.
  • Turn patients every two hours or as directed by the nurse.
  • Maintain proper body alignment during transfers and activities.
  • Escort patients during admission, transfer, and discharge as requested.
  • Assist with ambulation and mobility activities as needed.
  • Verify patient limitations and mobility plan with nurse prior to care.
  • On-call required weeknights, weekends and holidays by rotation.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent
KY Nurse Aide Certification or Nursing program (1st year) with clinical rotation validation

Nursing Assistant PACU Full Time I First Shift PACU I Lexington, KY The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a specialized hospital unit where patients are closely monitored and cared for immediately following surgical or procedural interventions requiring anesthesia. The PACU is critical for ensuring patient safety and comfort during the initial recovery period, addressing potential complications, and transitioning patients to the next phase of care.


Description


  • Transports patients after recovery.

  • Assists patients in personal hygiene such as bathing, dental and oral care, hair and nail care.

  • Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining dignity and recording I & O.

  • Does not leave patient unattended when out of bed for bathroom assistance.

  • Assists patients in dressing and undressing while providing dignity and privacy.

  • Assist patients by lifting them manually or by mechanical lifts as needed as directed by the nurse.

  • Assist patients with eating and drinking and nutritional needs.

  • Assist in transferring and discharging patients as required.

  • Assist patients in positioning for meals including cleaning hands of patients

  • Assists with serving meals and feeding patients as necessary.

  • Offers supplemental feeding/snacks.

  • Provides patient with fresh ice and drinking water per policy.

  • Documents input on chart at least every two hours.

  • Turns patients every two hours and/or as indicated as directed by the Nurse.

  • Maintains proper body alignment while performing patient transfer and activities.

  • Escorts patients during admission, transfer, and discharge as requested.

  • Assists with ambulation, up in chair, or other activities.

  • Verifies patient’s limitations, restrictions, and plan for mobility with Nurse prior to initiation of patient care.

  • On Call required-weeknights, weekends, and holidays picked by rotation.


Requirements


  • High School Diploma and/or Equivalent.

  • Current KY Nurse Aide Certification, or successful completions of first year of Nursing program with validation of clinical rotation.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

  • If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
