Job summary

Behavioral Health Network (BHN) is seeking a Nurse Manager for our Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) Outpatient Services in Worcester, MA. The role leads nursing and medical-assistant staff, ensures high-quality team-based care, and coordinates clinical operations.

The position requires an MA Registered Nurse license, at least 1 year in behavioral health, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse license.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with a behavioral health population.
  • Ability to supervise nursing and medical-assistant staff.
  • Strong clinical judgement and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with CBHC leadership to ensure high-quality, team-based care.
  • Supervise nursing and medical-assistant staff with guidance and oversight.
  • Carry out physician orders, administer medications, and obtain vital signs.
  • Support medication reconciliation, discharge planning, and care coordination.
  • Contribute to assessments including withdrawal evaluation and standard tools like COWS/CIWA.
  • Provide crisis counseling, risk-management, and psychoeducation.
  • Complete assessments, progress notes, orders, and documentation on time.
  • Identify and resolve clinical/operational issues in high-demand conditions.

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with CBHC leadership to ensure high-quality, team-based care and that services consistently meet required medical-component standards.
  • Supervise nursing and medical-assistant staff, providing guidance, support, and oversight that promotes safe, effective, and compliant care.
  • Carry out physician orders, administer medications, obtain vital signs, and complete medical screenings for individuals transitioning to higher levels of care.
  • Support medication reconciliation, discharge planning, and care coordination across medical and psychiatric levels of care.
  • Contribute to comprehensive assessments, including evaluation of substance-use withdrawal and administration of standardized tools such as COWS and CIWA.
  • Provide brief crisis counseling, individualized risk-management and safety planning, and psychoeducation to individuals receiving services.
  • Complete assessments, progress notes, physician orders, medication orders, and other required documentation clearly, accurately, and within established timeframes.
  • Identify and resolve clinical and operational issues as they arise, maintaining effectiveness and sound judgment in changing or high-demand conditions.
  • Manage medical supplies and inventory, maintain nursing licensure, complete mandatory training, and support essential program operations as required.
Who You Are
  • Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
  • At least one year of experience working with a behavioral health population required.
  • Basic understanding of mental health conditions and appropriate pharmaceutical and psychoeducational interventions required.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, coordinate, and facilitate individuals' medical needs within community-based behavioral health services.
  • Ability to supervise and support nursing and medical-assistant staff while promoting accountability, teamwork, and high-quality care.
  • Cultural responsiveness and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with complex or challenging needs.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, problem-solving, verbal and written communication, organization, collaboration, and technology skills.
