Job summary

MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute—Old Brooklyn is seeking a Nurse Intern to support the Neuro Trauma Recovery Stroke Unit. The role involves assisting with neurological assessments, ADLs, mobility, vitals, and basic care under supervision in a 14-bed inpatient unit.

Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program, in clinical rotations, and able to obtain AHA BLS within 90 days. This is a part-time internship with bi-weekly hours and variable shifts, contributing to a top Ohio

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited nursing program and progressing toward RN licensure.
• Currently completing clinical rotations as part of program requirements.
• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare providers either already held or to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses with direct patient care activities in Neuro Trauma Recovery Stroke Unit.
• Support neurological assessments, vital signs, and documentation.
• Assist with ADLs, transfers, mobility training, and basic wound care as directed.

Primary Patient Population:

• Stroke Rehabilitation

Primary skills utilized/learned:

• Neurological assessments
• Adaptive ADLs
• Transfer/Mobility training
• Vital signs, IVs, Foley Catheter insertion/removal, Wound care, etc.

Personnel Nurse Intern will work with:

• RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Nursing Assistants (PCNAs), Nurse Interns, Providers, Social Workers/Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, PT/OT, Speech Therapy, Art & Music Therapy, Dieticians

Number of beds on unit:

• 14 beds

Required Qualifications:

• Enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing (or a program seeking accreditation).
• Completed fundamentals of nursing
• Currently registered in clinical rotations
• Continuous enrollment in a nursing program
• Eligibility to continue in the position is a maximum of 6 months upon graduating from nursing school
• Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.
