Job summary

MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute – Old Brooklyn is seeking a Nurse Intern for the Neuro Trauma Recovery Stroke Unit (5N). You will assist in stroke rehabilitation, mobility training, and ADLs under the supervision of RNs and therapists.

Enrollment in an accredited nursing program is required; fundamentals of nursing completed and current clinical rotations are expected. AHA BLS certification or attainment within 90 days is required.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited nursing program
• Completed fundamentals of nursing
• Currently registered in clinical rotations
• Continuous enrollment in nursing program
• Eligibility to continue in the position is a maximum of 6 months upon graduating from nursing school
• Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Neurological assessments and monitoring
• Adaptive ADLs assistance and training
• Transfer and mobility training
• Vital signs monitoring and basic nursing care
• IV management and catheter care as needed
• Wound care and basic wound assessment
• Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, PCNAs and therapies to support patient care

Shift: Variable Days and Shifts

Primary Patient Population:

• Stroke Rehabilitation

Primary skills utilized/learned:

• Neurological assessments
• Adaptive ADLs
• Transfer/Mobility training
• Vital signs, IVs, Foley Catheter insertion/removal, Wound care, etc.

Personnel Nurse Intern will work with:

• RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Nursing Assistants (PCNAs), Nurse Interns, Providers, Social Workers/Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, PT/OT, Speech Therapy, Art & Music Therapy, Dieticians

Number of beds on unit:

• 14 beds
