Nurse Clinician - Sleep Surgery, Full Time, Days

Description

The Nurse Clinician will work in a multidisciplinary environment which requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, and clinical and administrative units. The position involves utilizing nursing skills to perform patient assessments via phone or in person and implementing nursing interventions, requiring good judgment, independent thinking, and creativity in resolving patient care issues. The nurse will also organize and initiate patient education for the unit's population.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain a safe and clean work environment, ensure OSHA compliance, report deficiencies, and assist in rectifying them. Supervise the care of medical equipment.
  2. Provide pre-attending care, perform comprehensive assessments, document findings, and maintain patient confidentiality. Follow protocols for releasing patient/medical information.
  3. Perform routine nursing duties such as phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs measurement, and lab specimen preparation. Demonstrate competency in complex procedures like conscious sedation and chemotherapy administration.
  4. Interpret test abnormalities, take appropriate remedial actions, and document interventions clearly and legibly.
  5. Communicate and collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to coordinate patient care.
  6. Manage telephone triage, prioritize calls, document assessments, and ensure clarity and completeness of records.
  7. Handle urgent/emergent situations according to protocols, operate emergency equipment as needed.
  8. Serve as a resource for staff and physicians, proactively address patient care needs, and delegate tasks according to Illinois law and protocols.
  9. Comply with policies and procedures, recommend improvements, and implement new policies timely.
  10. Coordinate and ensure patient understanding of educational materials, provide staff education, and participate in community outreach programs.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school
  • State Licensed Registered Nurse
  • Certification in Basic CPR
  • At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory setting
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (may be required for certain positions)
