Job summary

Radiant, based in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Nuclear Engineer, Sensors to own instrumentation for the Kaleidos microreactor. You will lead detector design, modeling, and qualification for reactor safety, shielding, and monitoring systems.

Work closely with reactor controls and DAQ engineers in a fast‑paced startup. The ideal candidate combines hands‑on sensor experience with coding skills and a passion for advanced reactor design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• 1–2+ years of nuclear engineering industry experience (MS equivalent to 2 yrs).
• Experience with radiation transport methods and codes (MCNP/OpenMC/Serpent).
• Proficiency in Python, C++, C#, FORTRAN or similar scientific computing language.
• Basic knowledge of thermal hydraulic principles.
• Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Experience working in an engineering organization and delivering high-quality work.

Responsibilities

• Ownership of sensor/instrumentation design and analysis for neutron flux and radiation monitoring.
• Support detector response modeling and verification using radiation transport codes.
• Evaluate sensor survivability under high-temperature and high-radiation conditions.
• Partner with reactor controls/DAQ engineers to integrate sensor outputs.
• Support V&V of instrumentation against requirements.
• Gather requirements and provide feedback to cross-functional teams.
• Other nuclear instrumentation duties as assigned.
