Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Cary, NC, is seeking an experienced mechanical/chemical engineer to help design and review nuclear power plant systems. You will prepare or review modification packages, drawings, analyses, and procurement documents for plant equipment.

The role includes cost estimates, client site visits, and presenting engineering tasks. You will lead engineering teams and work on modifications to operating plants.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 10 or more years of experience in the power industry.
• Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants.
• PE license is beneficial, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or review modification packages for operating nuclear power plants.
• Create functional mechanical drawings and/or drawings for nuclear power plant systems.
• Conduct engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation of plant systems.
• Prepare technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment.
• Evaluate vendor bids for plant equipment.
• Study and evaluate options for modifications to operating nuclear power plants.
• Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid-sized client work scopes.
• Visit client offices and/or plant sites to interface with clients and present engineering tasks and status.
• Lead engineering project teams.
